2nd & 3rd week of July: July 9 – 23, 2023
If July is not an option and you are looking for a year-round study abroad opportunity in Costa Rica, we offer an academic Spanish & Culture immersion program for high school students at our Heredia campus. Read our blog post about this program option!
Week one of your summer camp will be in the lovely city of Heredia in Costa Rica’s fertile Central Valley. City life is pretty sweet, but don’t worry, nothing in Costa Rica is far from the natural world and you will have the chance for adventure every day.
During the week
Each day you will enjoy a hearty breakfast with your host family before heading to the Intercultura school campus for 4 hours of class.
In the afternoons, we have a variety of engaging and adventurous activities for you, including a visit a local indigenous community, a community service project at a local wildlife rescue project, and a hike to Barva Volcano.
After dinner with your host family, you will continue immersing yourself in Costa Rican culture with cooking classes, Latin dance classes, and ice cream in the park with your new friends. Wrap up your week with facilitated workshops that help you put all these pieces together and see how you fit into this diverse world and the communities within it. You will be keeping a journal of your experiences to discuss during our leadership and social responsibility workshops.
On the weekend
You will have an off-the-beaten path excursion to Arenal Volcano and Monteverde Cloudforest, where you will see amazing wildlife, bathe in hotsprings, zipline through the rainforest, paddleboard on the lake, rappel over waterfalls and more!

FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS SUMMER SPANISH CAMPS
TEEN CAMP 2017
"My favorite thing about camp was getting to meet new people in a new country and have an amazing experience. I loved all the activities and getting to try new things everyday. Also I would definitely stay with the same host families again. Our moms were so sweet and loving. They treated you like their own kids and just wanted to get to know you. I especially loved my Mama Tica in Heredia because she was always laughing and having the best time. And I think talking to people around town or in our home stays really helped. Especially over dinner or another meal. That was the best time. I would definitely recommend Intercultura to other students. It's a great way to learn Spanish while having the time of your life and meeting new friends. All the activities are well planned out and you're surrounded by teachers and adults who want to help you however they can. Everyone is extremely open and sweet. Overall it was one of the best trips I've ever been on and I would recommend it to everyone trying to improve their Spanish. Muchas gracias."
