Amy Schmidt, MA
Amy grew up in a small town in rural North Carolina. She first came to Costa Rica as a high school exchange student. She lived with a family in Nicoya and often spent weekends in Playa Samara. She then worked for several years with a non-profit mobile health care clinic that serves migrant farmworkers in her home state. In 2017, she returned to Costa Rica to study at the University for Peace in Ciudad Colon, where she earned an MA in International Peace Studies. She came to Samara to write her thesis and fell in love with the beach all over again. In addition to working as Group Coordinator, Amy teaches yoga and empowerment self-defense classes. She is passionate about racial and gender equity. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, boxing, running, surfing and anything outdoors in nature.
