ADMINISTRATION:
Edgar
Meza, Systems Management Supervisor.
Edgar graduated in 1984, with a major in Telecommunications
and Information Systems. He also studied Systems Engineering
at the Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica, and
in 1990 he founded his own company for national data
transmission and IS. He joined Intercultura in 1999
as an independent contractor, and is now an indispensible
part of the staff as our patient and helpful Information
Systems manager. Edgar is also the school's evening supervisor, and is an integral part of the administration. In his free time he enjoys spending
time with his family, playing basketball and listening
to music.
Malachi Muhammad, English Department Academic Coordinator.
Malachi Muhammad is originally from Northern California, and graduated from California State University at Chico with a Bachelors in Criminal Investigation and Public Administration, followed by an Postgraduate Credential in General Education. Following university he went to work in the California educational system for five years, eventually becoming one of the youngest assistant principles in the state and working in one of California’s poorest districts. After his time in public education Malachi came to Costa Rica in 2003, where he began teaching at Intercultura and the Interamericana University, and doing teacher training for Costa Rica TEFL. After his first year at Intercultura, Malachi became Head English Teacher, where he worked in teacher training and curriculum development. He is currently completing his MA in Educational Administration, and in 2008 was promoted to Intercultura's English Department Academic Coordinator. He is fluent in Spanish, is an avid basketball player and a proud father.
Evelyn Dobri, Student Services & Homestays Coordinator .
Evelyn is Costa Rican but was brought up in Canada, where she completed her studies in tourism and nursing before moving back to Costa Rica. She is in charge of the homestay program and student affairs, and meets most students via email before they even arrive in Costa Rica, placing them with their homestay families and helping them plan their program in her usual cheerful and thorough way. She enjoys interacting with people from different countries and learning about new cultures. She is bilingual Spanish-English and speaks French.
Annia Delgado, Customer Service & Office Manager.
Annia Delgado is a native of Costa Rica and started
with Intercultura in 2006. She works as receptionist
and in student support services. She lived in the
US for several years, which helped give her an increased
understanding of, and desire to share with, people
from different cultures. She has a lot of experience
in the customer service field, and is the first person
students meet when they begin classes. She is known
for her sweet and patient disposition, which helps
students feel comfortable throughout their stay here.
She is currently completing her BA in education and
continues to perfect her excellent English at Intercultura.
Stacey Miner, Group and Programs Coordinator.
Stacey grew up outside of Chicago and moved to the Southwest United States to earn bachelor's degrees in cultural anthropology and psychology at Arizona State University. She has worked in tourism, direct-hire recruiting, social work and international education, this last being the area she is most passionate about. She has lived in Chicago, Arizona, and New Mexico, and studied culture, language, and dance through her university in México, Costa Rica, and Ghana, West Africa. She has spent time attending language schools in several countries in Latin America, and has conducted graduate-level and professional research in Mexico, Costa Rica, and England. She earned her M.A. degree in Intercultural Communication and completed her thesis on Cultural Learning through Study Abroad in Costa Rica, investigating the experiences of both Costa Ricans and international students. She has presented research and writings at conferences, taught college-level communication courses, and volunteered for a refugee organization in Arizona. Stacey joined Intercultura in 2008 and currently works as our Group and Programs Coordinator while assisting with international student services and marketing. Part of Stacey’s job includes imparting her indispensible Cultural Adaptation and Orientation workshops for foreign students, where her insights help them to understand and learn from Costa Rican culture and their place in it. She is currently polishing her Spanish, and hopes to follow with a return to the study of Brazilian Portuguese.
Nicolás Correa, English Department Administrative Coordinator.
Nicolás was born in Medellín, Colombia, where he lived before moving to the US and later Costa Rica, where he settled in 2001. He works for Intercultura's English department as the Administrative Coordinator, and has a degree in English with a major in Second Language Acquisition from the Universidad Nacional (UNA). Nicolás is bilingual English-Spanish, and is now learning German. He has taught both English and Spanish as a Second Language, and outside of school, he enjoys drawing, playing basketball, and going to the cinema.
Dennis Brenes, General Accountant.
Dennis is Costa Rican, and graduated with his BA in Administration with a major in Finance from Veritas University. He worked in financial markets, and public & private accounting for over 10 years before joining Intercultura in 2008 as the General Accountant. Dennis is fun-loving and outgoing, and enjoys making friends, going out, dancing salsa, and seeing good movies. He is currently studying English at Intercultura in his free time.
Dayanna Herrera, Assistant Accountant.
Dayanna joined Intercultura's accounting office in 2007. She is a graduate of the Heredia Technical College, where she obtained her degree in Accounting and Finance. Dayanna is now studying Administration at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma, and in her free time she enjoys reading and listening to music.
