The Intercultura Family

The Intercultura family has been growing since 1993, when it was founded by Laura Ellington and Adelita Jímenez.  Since then, we have listened and acted on what students have had to say, in alignment with our mission to teach and nurture the students that pass through our doors, giving them the highest standard of service possible while they are taking Spanish classes and experiencing Costa Rican culture.

At Intercultura, we believe that the best way you can learn Spanish is by giving you what every learner needs: a diverse and enriching curriculum as well as cultural activities to make the transition from your native tongue to Spanish an easy one! You will have fun learning Spanish in the classroom during the daily cultural activities and in the community.

High standards

Our university accredited Spanish teachers are the very best at what they do and work closely with our students, ensuring that they receive first-rate educational opportunities. Spanish classes are small, containing a maximum of 6 students and use the communicative approach of teaching, fully engaging students and putting them on the road to language success!  Our class structure encourages students to speak as much Spanish as possible, and so our teachers actively adopt the 80/20 rule.  In class, students speak 80% of the time and teachers 20%.  This coupled with the fact that we offer homestays with ‘Tico’ (Costa Rican) families means that you’ll be speaking in Spanish in no time!

Two great school campuses

Our Spanish Schools in Costa Rica offer students the freedom to study at its bustling city campus in Heredia or our tranquil beach campus in Sámara. Many students elect to study Spanish at both campuses, in order to fully embrace the different cultures Costa Rica has to offer, as well as to sample our unique offerings at each location.
